Uptown Greenville and ECU Pair Up to Offer New Faculty Discount Program

GREENVILLE, North Carolina—August 14, 2008—Uptown Greenville has partnered with East Carolina University’s Center for Faculty Excellence to create a faculty orientation discount program for the estimated 140 new faculty and staff arriving to the area.  The program will run for the duration of faculty orientation, August 11^th through the 15^th, and will be valid at 11 restaurant and retail businesses in the Uptown district. 

To receive discounts at participating Uptown businesses, new faculty present their orientation name badge.  Participating businesses are offering 10-75% discounts and one business provided a free gift for the office of incoming faculty. 

This is not the first time Uptown Greenville and ECU’s Center for Faculty Excellence paired up.  Last year, Uptown Greenville partnered with ECU’s Center for Faculty Excellence to host a reception for incoming faculty Uptown.  The discount program implemented this year is an effort to introduce a broad scope of businesses to incoming faculty and to allow Uptown businesses to welcome new faculty throughout the week. 

Dr. Dorothy Muller, Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence said, “We’re delighted to work with Uptown Greenville and to be able to provide incentives to go Uptown.”  Denise Walsh, Executive Director of Uptown Greenville said, “We enjoy the opportunity to encourage the ECU community to walk Uptown and to introduce them to dining and shopping options found adjacent to ECU.”

Uptown Greenville is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to develop plans and implement actions necessary to revitalize and to ensure continued growth to the Uptown Business District of Greenville, North Carolina.  Uptown depends on member dues, sponsorships and donations to fund events and programs.
